Principal Areas of Practice

Insurance Law

For decades, Guild, Yule has acted for many of North America's leading property and casualty underwriters, defending actions against their assureds, prosecuting subrogated claims for recovery, and protecting their interests in policy coverage suits. Our practice also encompasses the fields of accident and disability insurance. We provide legal counsel with respect to claims throughout Western Canada, and our opinion is sought from insurers on risks insured internationally. We work closely with our clients' claims professionals to develop case management strategies and budgets, and to identify and implement alternative methods of dispute resolution. The firm also advises clients in the insurance industry as to corporate matters such as registration and licensing requirements, including representations to the Financial Institutions Commission, the Insurance Council of British Columbia, and provincial Superintendents of Insurance. Many of our lawyers participate as panelists in seminars on Insurance and Litigation topics sponsored by groups such as the Continuing Legal Education Society, and the Canadian Institute. Senior members of the firm serve as Adjunct Professors at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law. We share our expertise with our clients by making ourselves available to educate and train their staff as to relevant developments in the law of insurance, tort law, evidence, civil procedure and alternative dispute resolution. Our practice encompasses the following specific areas:

Professional Negligence

Products Liability

Property Damage Directors and Officers Liability

Institutional Liability

Transportation and Shipping

Class Actions
